Insects in Yogurt
Rumor: Berry-flavored yogurts are colored with crushed insects.
Fact! Some berry-flavored yogurts get their lovely pink hue from crushed cochineal insects. The color is extracted from dried bugs and processed into a dye that is added to your food. Gross as this may seem at first, the dye is safe to eat.
However, if you'd prefer to avoid insects altogether, avoid yogurts with the words "carmine" or "cochineal extract" on the label.
