"The Dr. Oz Show" To Give A “15 Minute Physical” In Partnership with HCA Midwest Health System And KMBC

The Dr. Oz Show To Deliver a “Report Card” on the Health of Kansas City To Mayor James After Screening City for Major Disease Markers.

New York – (October 15, 2012) – America’s Doctor, Dr. Mehmet Oz, two-time Emmy® Award-winning host of the two-time Emmy® Award-winning, nationally syndicatedThe Dr. Oz Show, will give Kansas City a “15 Minute Physical” in partnership with HCA Midwest Health System, Alere, Inc. and Practice Fusion on Tuesday, October 30, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Research Medical Center Brookside Campus, 6675 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.  KMBC Channel 9, the local home of The Dr. Oz Show, will award five lucky viewers the opportunity to have an in-person consultation with Dr. Oz during the “15 Minute Physical.”  The Dr. Oz Show airs weekdays at 4:00 p.m. on KMBC at 6:00 a.m. on KCWE.

The “15 Minute Physical” is a quick series of screening tests that include a lipid panel (HDL and LDL cholesterol and triglycerides), and blood glucose made possible on the Alere Cholestech LDX® System, a rapidly reading mobile lab device contributed by Alere, Inc. In addition to the blood test on the Alere Cholestech LDX® System, registrants will have their blood pressure and waist size measured.  By linking these five important markers, a very basic idea of general risk for heart disease and diabetes can be determined. 

Upon learning the results, a short counseling discussion with clinical staff from Research Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health System, will advise participants whether they are in optimum health, should address any of the conditions, or follow up with their primary care physician. By providing quick, basic information to people, life threatening chronic disease can be stopped in its tracks, which is what the “15 Minute Physical” event hopes to accomplish.

Practice Fusion, an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) company, will be performing data analytics in real time to determine averages, trends and other significant data points for the random sample of people.  Aggregating this information will provide a good indication of the urgency to focus on prevention in various areas to prevent the common major killers, heart disease and diabetes.  From this data, a “report card” representative of the results seen over the entire day will be presented to Kansas City officials and Dr. Oz will discuss the results in a press opportunity open to the media.
