Statement from Ivanka Trump on Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery affecting men, women, and children of all ages and backgrounds, breaking apart families and communities, both here in the US and around the globe. One of today’s growing forms of trafficking is the buying and selling of young boys and girls online. Over the past year, we have led roundtables and listening sessions at the White House with the interagency, Congress, NGOs, and survivors, to determine meaningful ways that we can collectively expand and improve our work to combat these crimes. This Administration has and will continue to make this a top priority.

On Tuesday, I met with bipartisan Members of Congress, as well as notable members from the private sector and NGO community to discuss a specific piece of legislation: The Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, better known as FOSTA – sponsored by Congresswoman Ann Wagner from Missouri. This legislation also includes important language from the Senate bill, Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act, better known as SESTA, which is sponsored by Senator Rob Portman of Ohio. We urge the Senate to pass this important piece of legislation as soon as possible to end this grave injustice – and restore safety, peace, and hope for our citizens and communities.
