3 Foods You Can Still Eat Past the Expiration Date

Ever gone to get some food from your fridge only to realize your lost track of time and the item is past its expiration date? Turns out, those foods may still be good! Cookbook author Ali Rosen is here to help you reduce your food waste and stop throwing out so many things. Here are three foods she says you can still eat past their expiration dates.

Milk: 3 days

Don't be afraid just because it's dairy. Yes, Ali says you can still drink milk three days after the expiration date stamped on the carton. Just be sure to keep the it in the coldest part of the fridge (which means, no door shelf).

Eggs: 3-5 weeks

Shelled and pasteurized eggs can actually last a lot longer in the fridge than you think. Feel free to crack one open three to five weeks after the expiration date stamped on the carton.

Ground Beef: 4 months

No, this is not about letting the beef sit in the fridge until it's green. If you find yourself with more ground beef than you can eat — or you didn't get time to make that lasagna you planned to — stick it in the freezer! It will stay good for four months past the expiration date on the package. Now, you could keep it in the indefinitely, but the quality will go down after four months.
