Grilled Turkey Burger

It can be difficult to decide between your traditional beef patty and a turkey patty at a barbecue, especially if you don’t know which one is the healthier and tastier option. A lot of people think that turkey burgers are always healthier, but that’s not always the case if you don’t shop right. At the grocery store, make sure to avoid pre-seasoned frozen turkey burgers and buy at least 90% lean white turkey. Also, look for pasture-raised turkey, which are higher in omega-3s and less likely contain antibiotics.

1/2 lb Ground turkey
1 1/3 cups Finely chopped Granny Smith apple (peeled)
1 cup Finely chopped green pepper
1/4 cup Finely chopped onion
1 Lemon
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Freshly ground black pepper
1 Large egg white
1 tsp Hot Tabasco sauce
1 tsp Ground flaxseed
2 tsp Olive oil

Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil; swirl to coat. Add apple, pepper, and onion; sauté 5 minutes or until tender. Remove from heat, and cool completely.

Grate rind and squeeze juice from lemon to measure 2 teaspoons rind and 1 tablespoon juice. Combine apple mixture, lemon rind, lemon juice, flaxseed, and turkey. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add egg; mix gently just until combined. Add tabasco sauce, if desired. Shape into 6 (1/2-inch-thick) patties. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours or until thoroughly chilled.

Preheat grill to high heat. Place patties on grill rack coated with cooking spray. Grill 5 minutes on each side or until done. Place buns, cut side down, on grill rack. Grill 1 minute or until toasted.
