Osteopathic Doctor

Osteopathic medicine is a branch of the medical profession that also focuses on the manual manipulation of muscles and joints to address illness and the body’s innate ability to heal itself. Osteopathic doctors (D.O.s) go through a four-year training very similar to that of M.D.s, often train in the same residency programs as M.D.s, and are certified to practice in all 50 states. While many D.O.s choose to practice in settings that make use of their skills as D.O.s, many also practice in regular clinical settings, like the hospital or emergency department.

D.O.s can bring a slightly different perspective on medicine based on their training in holistic aspects of care and manual manipulation, but their emphasis on these methods varies from practitioner to practitioner.
