Use a Visualization Technique
Use an empty chair as a visualization technique. If there is someone you are having a disagreement with right now, see this person in your mind’s eye. Imagine them sitting in the chair in front of you and envision telling them: “What you really need to know about me is…” and then, “I can understand the way you’re feeling because…” This exercise can help people who struggle with anger or reactivity to find more compassion. It can help you to cultivate kindness while helping you to change your brain. Use the chair as a rehearsal before you actually have a real-life conversation.
