Sleep deprivation causes a whole slew of problems, not the least of which are bloating and puffiness. As Feller explains, “When you’re not well rested, your brain wants more energy. Carbohydrates –specifically refined carbs – give your brain immediate energy,” explains Feller. This is a bad cycle, however, because refined carbs are not good for your body or for reducing bloat. So make sure to get the recommended seven to nine hours of rest the night before an event (and maybe even the nights leading up to it too).
