Reality TV or A Reality Check?

I’ve learned so much during this journey. I’ve learned that we don’t live in a reality television show and that losing weight at a healthy normal pace is a good thing! It is not only healthy for our hearts, bodies or minds, but it is a reality. We cannot expect to lose 5 to 10 pounds a week and keep it off; after all, we do not work out in a gym 8 hours a day while consuming 1200 calories. It took me a while to grasp that concept during my journey. I had to learn to embrace the one pound loss and realize the progression I was making week by week.

I have to admit, there were weeks where I didn’t lose anything after working hard in the gym and eating well. I felt like a complete failure; was I destined to be a fat girl forever? The answer was, NO! I did not go home and open up a bag of gooey chocolate goodies or drive through the Golden Arches for a super-sized death meal. Instead, I reflected on what I had done, and realized that I am human, and my body is going to react differently each week, especially since I am a woman in my 40s. The next week, I would change up my work out and try a new menu to throw my body’s memory off a little.

I’ve also learned that this is just as much a mental journey as a physical one.  Each day creates a new challenge, whether it’s a food struggle or going to the gym after a hard day.  But each challenge brings new a new strength that you will be able to rely on for years to come! I have learned so many things throughout my journey, and whether I lose weight one week or not, I know that as long as I have determination and perseverance, I will succeed in becoming and staying a happy healthy me and you will too!
