By Dorothy Contrastano and Eileen Komanecky Winners of the Dr. Oz Ultimate Viewer Showdown
We are Eileen and Dorothy - best friends for over 40 years, and big fans of The Dr. Oz Show. We were given the awesome privilege of guest writing for DoctorOz.com as a result of winning the first ever Dr. Oz Ultimate Viewer Showdown (watch the video!). The episode was lots of fun and a great experience for us.
Our team was called Road Testers. Our claim to fame is that we relentlessly listen to Dr. Oz’s advice and “road test” many of the products and ideas he touts. The competition was stiff – we were up against a team called Energy Boosters, two women who were able to significantly increase their energy levels by employing Dr. Oz’s recommended strategies, and a husband-and-wife team called Weight Loss Wonders, who followed Dr. Oz’s advice and managed to lose a combined total of over 100 lbs. We were able to squeak out a victory over our worthy opponents, bring home the coveted Dr. Oz Purple Glove Trophy, and are now able to share some of our thoughts with our fellow Dr. Oz fans.
Although you would never know by looking at us, we are both over 50. And since the accompanying hormonal changes and hot flashes do not help with sleep, we were looking for some ways to help achieve a better night’s rest. We tried the passion flower powder and the L-theanine supplement. Both were reasonably priced and fairly easy to obtain. Dr.Oz also suggested a form of white noise to go along with this.
Eileen: I enjoyed the white noise.
Dorothy: I found that the rippling stream sounds resulted in a multitude of bathrooms trips. Not conducive to a good night’s sleep, at least for me.
In general, the combination of the Passion Flower Powder and the L-Theanine was helpful. While by no means a knockout punch, the combination provided a sense of calm and drowsiness that is very relaxing and soothing.
We both live in New England where the winter weather often causes dry, chapped skin. Our faces tend to get dull in the winter, and at our age, we really want that brightness. We purchased glycyrrhiza glabra, also known as natural extract of licorice root. The extract contains glycyrrhetic acid and flavonoids that have soothing, regenerative and antioxidant properties. Licorice extract is used as a skin-brightening agent. We were both thrilled with the results. Anyone looking for a good winter, dry skin treatment may want to give it a try!
We’re looking forward to spring – and more new episodes of the show so we can keep exploring, experimenting and living our healthiest lives. Thank you Dr. Oz!
