How to Boost Energy Fast Without Turning to Coffee

UPDATE: This article was updated with new and relevant medical information on July 15, 2019.

With an 8-to-4 job, busy to-do list, and some sleepless nights that get the best of me, I can always use an energy boost. My first resort is to clutch an iced coffee like it’s sacred, but sometimes that caffeine fix is over way to quickly and I'm left looking for other ways to boost energy fast, instead of just opting for coffee.

The Chicago Tribune reported on a 2017 survey from the National Safety Council that found, "97 percent of Americans have at least one of the leading risk factors for fatigue," which included working long hours and working more than 50 hours a week. Coffee seems like a simple fix, but, it can also be a drink that is possibly associated with anxiety, dehydration, and sleep issues, based on the high amount of caffeine.

But there’s more you can do for energy besides giving into the coffee craze. You will be relieved to know that some of these tips and tricks use household items that are probably in your kitchen, ideal for when you need energy in a pinch. Dr. Oz’s energy-boosting recipes and tips will help you learn what to pick up at lunchtime, what to avoid, and more when you feel a sudden slump.

Dr. Oz’s Energy Cubes

Dr. Oz has an easy way to get extra boost throughout your day with his recipe for spirulina-fused energy cubes. The blue-green algae is a complete protein, containing all nine of the essential amino acids.Dr. Oz says that spirulina works differently than that cup of morning coffee — or even a power nap — because it provides us with a full set of nutrients.

By adding lime juice as an ingredient in these cubes, it’s a recipe for success. The citric acid provides chemical energy for your body. Here’s how to make Dr. Oz’s refreshing energy cubes:

1 tsp spirulina powder ($20 at health food stores)

12 oz. lime juice

Once combined, freeze in an ice tray.

Add two cubes to an 8 oz. glass of water. You can also add these ice cubes to vegetable or fruit juice if desired.

Energy Blaster: Moringa Oleifera

Another one of Dr. Oz’s tips for a kickstart is to incorporate moringa oleifera into your daily diet, which has B vitamins that can assist in turning food into energy. It’s a plant grown near the Himalayas and has been used for centuries in the northwest part of India, due to its health benefits, according to MedicalNewsToday.

Ask your doctor how much moringa oleifera is right for you. You can also try an all-natural approach by picking up moringa tea at your local health food store for $10.

Pack A Pick-Me-Up

We can feel sluggish at all points of the day, but that afternoon slump can certainly make us feel extra drained. For a mid-day boost, pack your purse with these energy essentials to survive the rest of your day.

Dark Chocolate

A piece of dark chocolate not only offers a delicious bite, it also contains caffeine.

Ginseng Gum

According to MedicalNewsToday, Ginseng is a forked-shaped root from Asia that has been shown to reduce fatigue in those with chronic fatigue.

Origins VitaZing SPF 15 Energy-Boosting Moisturizer With Mangosteen

Dr. Oz says that SPF is great for all times of the year, not only when you are having some fun in the sun. To pack your purse the smart (and energy-maximizing!) way, try this Origins moisturizer. It containsmangosteen, a tropical superfruit from Southeast Asia

Power Down Pressure Point

Instead of nighttime electronic distractions, focus on an acupressure point instead. According to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, these points help eradicate muscle tension and trigger blood circulation

Locate the pressure point between the base of your thumb and index finger and press down on it for five minutes to alleviate pain and even headaches.
