High blood pressure or not, it is essential to take these notable tips into account, in order to sustain a healthy lifestyle. At the end of the day, eating right is crucial in preventing hypertension from developing. 1. Make sure your diet consists of mostly fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. 

2. Having some meat as part of your diet is okay. Try to eat only one or two servings of red meat per week. 

3. Eat foods that are minimally processed. 

4. Choose take out wisely. 

5. Sodium should be less than 500 mg per meal. 

6. Sodium should be no more than 1500 mg per day. 

7. Include highly nutritious foods in your meals on a regular basis: fruits, vegetables, olive oil, some dairy, nut butter, fish, beans, 100 percent whole grain (breads). 

8. Do not add salt to your food. 

9. Try to make food at home in bulk, and portion it out for the week.
