Freedom of Information Act: Level of Concern for Pear Juice

In 2008, the FDA set a "level of concern" for pear juice at 23 parts per billion (ppb) after a batch tested high for arsenic. The Dr. Oz Show wondered how the FDA determined this "level of concern." The FDA spokesperson told us, "FDA scientists conducted a health hazard assessment to establish 23 ppb as the level of concern for pear juice. This assessment is outlined in a memo, which is accessible via a FOIA request." The response to this filed request is below.

A FOIA request is processed to obtain information from a goverment agency. It is requested in writing and the FDA has 30 days to fill the request. The memo's subject is "Arsenic in Pear Juice Products".
