The Best Teas for Teatoxing That Won’t Cost a Fortune

Get the benefits of tea without buying into costly teatoxing products.

Teatoxing is a popular weight-loss cleanse that’s fueled by expensive, prepackaged products but the good news is that you can get the same benefits when you drink different types of tea on a regular basis. Naturopath Dr. Pina LoGiudice and integrative nutritionist Lynayn Mielke shared their top tea picks that can help with a variety of health concerns.

Beat Bloat

A popular ingredient in prepackaged teatoxes, milk thistle tea can promote healthy liver, gallbladder, and kidney function and as a result, lead to healthier digestion. Drink a cup of milk thistle tea up to three times a day.

Dandelion root and dandelion leaf tea can help clear skin and promote healthy liver and blood pressure function. Because this tea is bitter, you can add freshly squeezed lemon juice, stevia, or mix it with green tea to make it more palatable. Have a cup of dandelion root tea or dandelion leaf tea up to three or four times a day.

Curb Cravings

To control sugar cravings, drink a cup of licorice root tea, which has the same sweet taste as black licorice. Licorice root tea can help balance blood sugar levels, promote better adrenal gland function, and keep the hormone cortisol in check. Enjoy a cup of licorice root tea up to three times a day but make sure to drink it before 6 p.m. because the tea may keep you up at night.

Boost Metabolism

Oolong tea is a strong, black tea that’s rich in antioxidants and polyphenols which can stimulate metabolism and block enzymes that promote fat buildup. Add a cinnamon stick or a teaspoon of cinnamon to a cup of oolong tea and enjoy up to three times a day. As with licorice root tea, limit the consumption of oolong tea during the daytime to make sure the caffeine doesn’t affect you at night.

Ease Constipation

For extreme constipation, drink a cup of senna leaf tea as a laxative but have no more than twice a week. Excessive consumption of senna leaf tea can be dangerous and negatively affect the bowel system.
